Hello
I have a 17ft Chriscraft viking deck boat. It came with no I/O engine but had a hole in the transom for an I/O. We converted the boat from I/O to Outboard by patching the I/O hole and making a makeshift transom on the back to hold a 1977 Evinrude 55hp (185 lbs).
I wanted to start using this boat more for intercostal/ 1st reef action ( In FL) when it is nice out there. I need reliability and found a 1997 Mecury 90hp (300 lbs).
I wanted to know if I gut the old make shift transom out and start new can I rebuild the transom the right way to handle this 300lbs engine hanging on the back?
The make shift one was done quick but never flexed or anything with the old 55hp 185 lbs motor. But I wanted to make this new transom for the new motor %110 if I find out from you guys it can be done right.
Thanks,
DamianJP
