I take it a police report was made and you have pressed charges for his arrest. Arson is a felony. arson to an occupied home is a very serious felony. Distruction of personal property is a felony. Fleeing the crime is a felony..He should get 20 years for this stunt.

So glad everyone is OK. You are a lucky man in many ways. To have heard him in time to sound the alarm, to have your family still to celebrate Christmas, and lucky you were able to celebrate Christmas at all. Maybe the next time Cousin ends up in hospital, HIS luck will have run out. YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID

what about attempted murder?

Arson to an occupied building covers the attempted murder charge, I did forget to add the assault charge and indecent exposure. That guy needs to be in jail for a long long time. This story is crazy and I assume its true.

Crazy, yes-
the person needs mental help if he's ever to get his act together, crazy is a inballance brought on by who knows, compounded by drugs/alchool I dont think your going to find the help he requires in a federal prison, nut house YES .

Re: Christmas Almost Ruined

We have had my wifes family staying with us for the holidays. I get along really well with all her family except one cousin. That cousin has history with prison, drug abuse and alcoholism. He was released from prison six months ago and he supposedly had cleaned up his act. I didnt want him staying with us but, the wife and mother in-law talked me into it. It was for the holidays. I thought I was doing the right thing by letting him be part of the family now that he is cleaned up.
....

Wow! My prayers are with you and your family... This teaches us that no good deed goes unpunished... I think we must always follow our instincts.

With a history like that, I would not mind having a bad cousin for dinner, but would not let him stay anywhere near the family and the kids....

I have a cousin very much like yours, except he's never set my house on fire. He did get in a fist fight with a police car once, with the police in it. I think the car was winning. I would not trust him anywhere on my property as he has a history of which I don't want to become part.

Let's just say, to make up a story like that, you'd have to be nuttier than the nutjob cousin....

when people make up stories there is subconcious justification for the story in the story.

this is real!

when the first thing a person does is question a story it's most often because they are story tellers.

not saying but this is a fact jack.

My wife loves you! Why? Because her sister doesn't look so bad now ... gee, I am ALMOST glad she is stayinig with us for a couple of weeks! When I have got iritated with her last night I just thought of your story and your cousin, and my SIL was just fine! I think I will print out your initial post and tack it to my bathroom mirror so I read it every morning before facing the SIL! You have brought peace to our home this Christmas season! :p;) :D

BTW, I am certainly glad that you and yours are okay and that no one was seriously hurt through this incident. I also hope your cousin gets the help he needs.

Please let us know when they catch him.

I fear for the safety of you and your family. He may come back and try to finish
what he started!!!

Dont you hate it when you are right? I would not rub it in their face, probably you would not either, but me, I will save it for future need...

We moved all our tables and chairs to the garage and still enjoyed a great Christmas dinner. We opened gifts in the garage too. Even though that event was really bad, we still had a nice Christmas. While we were eating we realized how different this year could have turned out had that guy succeeded in "cleansing" us.

AMEN!!!

Mental illness is a tragedy.

I realize mental illness had probably a part in this saga... But Im sure there is some alcohol or drugs as the main offender.

The cousin is on parole and is suppose to report this week to his officer. I'm sure he wont go to that appointment. When they do catch him he will have a parole violation on top of everything else. Hopefully they find him soon and put him away.

Sounds like he needs to be put away for good. Cage him, lock him, help him but leave him caged. No one else should have to take a chance with this guy...
