Started with google earth crashing and restarting my computer. When searching the interweb for solutions, I started getting redirected to off the wall websites. (car dealers, asparagus recipes). Finally couldn't search anything without redirection. The computer fixerupper said chrome conflicted with IE. I've got Windows XP. Back to hohum. Just a heads up.

Re: Chrome/IE malfunctions!!

It's probably one of those search programs you installed yourself by not watching what was checked by default. I got one of those one time that that I downloaded with a font I wanted. Took a while to find it, but I just uninstalled it, and all was good.

I'll see if I can find the name of the one I had, but there are a bunch of different ones.

It could also be inside of some new tool bar that got added on with something you installed.

You're probably right. Somehow there appeared a delta search engine that I know I didn't download. All I remember doing consciously was adding a plugin somewhere along googles trail. Now I'm fearful of downloading chrome again due to the $75/hr fixerupper fees.

I am a retired systems tech, systems security specialist. 60% of the problem, is you are using Windows XP.. (sorry I hate that OS, with a passion, it is limited, and problematic) the rest of your problems lie with IE. Even IE 10 is a piece of junk, it still has more security flaws then ever before.

get a copy of CCleaner as it is one of the best Crap Cleaner programs on the market, as well as lose Norton/McAffee they're two of the biggest POS AV's on the market. I prefer Avast (free version) or AVG (free version). I have never had a problem with either one..

Google Chrome is the best browser you can use. But like everything *online* you have to be smart about it. WATCH what you are downloading, and installing. Spy/hackware is everywhere these days..
