Hi all :)

I am in the final stages of my restoration on a 45hp Chrysler 455HC (1971). I'm not 100% sure but i'm fairly certain i have a magneto type ignition.

My question is- will a 60's Aqua meter tach work with my motor?
what's the worst that could happen if i hook it up to test?

or will i have to go with a tiny tach setup and just leave the Aqua meter unwired and up for 'show' purposes.

Thanks for any help at all :)

Re: Chrsyler tach question

I had a 1970 Aqua meter tach on a magneto ignition 55. It was the surface mount type held with three screws in the chrome bezel. There were four terminals on the back and a movable wire that was positioned on a terminal for number of pulses.

It worked fine for about two years then inexplicably started to read 2500 rpm at full throttle. Tried various combinations of pulses and terminals and it always read 2500. Sent it back to the factory three times and each time they said it was working perfectly. Each time I hooked it up, it did the same thing. I finally gave up and just let it be.

Re: Chrsyler tach question

Hi Frank :)

Thanks for the reply. I have a similar gauge it sounds like- only mine has a screw that you turn to select number of pulses. I'll giver a whirl and hope for the best!

Thanks again, from here in Nashville!

All the best, Pat
