I replaced the seals in my two piece lower end thanks to the help of the people on here, i took it out and went boating and when i pulled her out the weep hole leaked water only and no gear lube. I stored it away in the garage and then went to check it and it had leaked a 4 inch pool of gear lube from that weep hole. I have not yet investigated if the internal gear lube is water free or not. Is it possible i over filled the lower end and the excess is leaking off?

If you filled it the correct way it is not possible to over fill it. : With the engine vertical-- Remove both plugs and drain the oil. Next put the fill nozzle in the bottom hole and pump until lube comes out the top hole. Put in the top plug to create a vacuum inside the unit. Now QUICKLY so only a very little oil runs out, remove the nozzle and install the bottom plug/ If oil is draining out the weep hole and it is definitely lower unit lube, then the drive shaft seal was either installed incorrectly or the casting is bad and the seal is not sealing It is also possible that the shift rod seal is not doing its job so check there.

Did you smell the leaking oil? If it smells like gasoline it is actually residual oil from the running that worked its way down the leg.

It smelled like gear out but was really black. The boat motor is kept tilted up. I am going to grab the boat from storage and check it out

Well i got the lower end in a tub of water and checked for leaks via air pressure, less than 10 psi and it was leaking around the shift rod seal, and between the two piece lower end. I will inspect the o ring for pinches and if that doesnt get rtv black may be needed??

Problem solved! I found the oring between the two piece lower end was pinched, replaced it and checked for leaks and boom it will hold 20 psi of pressure!
