Hi- new to the forum.

I just inherited a 3.5 hp outboard. Im new to all this. Im not sure the year- model # 32h0d.

I put it in a bucket and fired her up. There appears to be no way to stop the prop from spinning- is it possible this engine has no neutral?

After running her, I have has oil dripping from the lower unit/prop. Any thoughts on this- should I drop the lower unit and check her out? Im new to boating- sorry for the basic questions. I cant find anything about this engine anywhere on the internet.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Chrysler 3.5 hp questions

Motor is from 1980. Parts are going to be hard to find for this motor. Take a whiff of the oil if it smells like gasoline it is unburned gas oil mix if it smells really foul it is lower unit oil. My guess is it is unburned oil and gas mix. I dont know where to start. Get a clymer manual and maybe go to chrysler crew and get a downloadable factory service manual. First thing you will want to do when everything is working is to replace the impeller part number F521065 price 65 dollars (ouch) next you will want to decarb the crap out of the motor. This should help to reduce the gas coming out the motor leg. I dont see any type of shift linkage so maybe you can not put this in neutral. If you have more questions please post and someone will help. Oh yeah welcome to Iboats.

Re: Chrysler 3.5 hp questions

Have the same motor, found it in a shed.
It's a single cylinder fan cooled motor.
mine is seized up and can't get it loose. tried penetrating oil and everything but still no movement. any help with that??
Your lucky yours is working good!

There is no neutral or reverse, its always in forward. When you have it on a boat, you can turn the motor 360 degrees so to go in reverse just turn it 180 degrees. Its tough but you'll get used to it haha, might have to practice docking!
