Hi,

I just purchased a Chrysler 35.
When I was inspecting the motor, the guy I purchased it from started it for me (first shot) then I did a compression test, and it all look OK.

Last night, I went to start it, and have two questions.

Q1. With the cover off the motor, and the motor switched off, I can hear, what sounds like an electrical clicking noise, is this a problem like a short somewhere?

Q2. The battery I was using was a bit low on charge, so it took a while longer to start as it did not have enought to turn over the motor. While this was going on, I noticed that some drops of fuel driped out of the carby. Also, after running the motor, it leacked a small amout of fuel, half way down the leg of the motor.
I noticed the bleeding fuel when I inspected the motor, and the guy told me that it was just that the motor had not warmed up enought, and it was excess from the carby, is this true, or is it more like the float is stuck? should I be worred about it?

Thanks for your comments in advance
Zep

Hi Zep - congratulation with your purchase.

The leaking out unburned oil at the lower of motor leg is usually just unburned fuel, due to running a bit cold and without load om muffs - no reason to worry ! The carbs should not leak at all - try to take apart and clean, and while you have it apart, install a carb rebuild kit - a cheap and easy fix. If you are not familiar with this, go to the library and get a manual. Chrysler has kind of bad reputation amont some, however i talked to a lot af satisfied owners through the years, and i think it is mostly based on the fact that chrysler quit early, so these motors lack the modern features and development, and they were not masters on marketing. Happy boating !!

Oh I forgot the clicking noise - a few are equipped with electric fuel pump - if the carbs leak, it will provide a click now and then, supplying more fuel. Try to locate the sound, if it comes from a small barrelshaped pumphousing, thats it.

Thanks G-Dane,

I'll look at her on the weekend and try and find a carby kit.

Form the look of them, they don't look too complecated, but i'll dig up an exploded diagram some where, just in case.

Thanks again,
Zep..
