I have a 1965 14ft larson with a Chrysler 35HP model 3551 motor on it.
The motor will run, just not very good. Also I have water in the lower unit. Bad seal?
So what I was wondering is it worth it to fix it or just get another motor? Are the chrysler engines any good? With it being that old will the parts cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks for any help

Hi Justin
Your motor is a 1968 model. Most outboard parts cost an arm and a leg, but so do new ones. Wether or not your motor is worth repairing is up to you. I suggest you obtain a repair manual. Preform some tests and figure out what your dealing with. Ordinarly resealing a lower unit isn't a real big deal. My guess is that a handy fellow could do a real nice complete job for around $100. including manual and water pump. Less if you borrow the book. Of corse your labor is free.

Hi justin
I haven,t figured out how to do the link thing yet but a lot of the guys here can get you some. I also have never traded on line ether. I ve heard that napa auto parts can order some parts. These will be after market parts, the parts are good, Some Napa dealers are tops, some have some work to do. You might also try Fair winds marine on line.
