I have a 78 or 79 45 HP 2 stroke/2 cylinder outboard engine and I think I am having charging issues with. When I disconnect the battery when engine is idling it dies. Is is supposed to do that? I've also noticed that when I cruise for a while on a full throttle the charging indicator goes from fair to good but does not show charging. Please help! All comments and any insight very appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Chrysler 45 HP charging issues.

I guess nobody wants to comment on my question. Oh well. I have found out that you can't disconnect the battery while engine is running or you will fry the rectifier. If so what type of rectifier can I use to replace the old one with? They run for about $50.00 each and I've heard that you can buy a replacement at Radio Shack for like $3.89 each. They only have 25A 50V ones. Can I use it or will I have to use some higher voltage ones like 400V? Any one dealt with this situation before? Thanks.
