CHRYSLER 45HP what year is it??

Hi-I have a chrysler 45hp serial number 4782 & model number 457hh these were on dog tag at back of motor under motor cover. On the fingimajig that holds the motor to the back of the boat their is a serial number 433532-alcon(R)2014, flywheel serial number 11341. if you could tell me what year it is and what they were like for reliability that would be great. what speed would they do pushing a 14ft fiberglass hull along just a questamate will do. Bought a small boat recently wif this motor on da back and i dont know anything about them.

Hi fishead and welcome to iboats!<br /><br />Close as I can find, it's somewhere between a 75' and 77'.<br /><br />Maybe one of the other guys can get it closer.

Hi fishead<br />OBJ is correct, the 457HH model ran for three years. This span should be well close enough for obtaining parts and making repairs. Now just for trifles, the model 457HH begining with ser# 1001-4950 were made in 1975. These models were equipt with an alternator. Ser#s 4950-6500 were 1976 and 6500-up were 1977 models. It is my opinion that the reliability of any outboard motor has more to do with the expirence and EXPECTATIONS of the operator, rather than on actual construction. The West Bend,Chrysler,force lineage of motors ended up with a less perfect rep. here in the U.S. I feel this was mostly due to market position. Outboards as a whole are fairly durable and will do a lot of work with a mimimum amount maint. With reasonable care and maint. you should expect reasonable reliability from your Chrysler. There are so many variables in boats and equiptment as to speed. I would guess maybe 25-35mph. tops.

i have just found accurate information regarding the motors year. found it at <br /><br />athttp://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectModels2.asp?type_id=CHRY <br /><br />It is a 1977 motor.
