Just bought a project boat (Crosby 16') with a Chrysler 55. I cannot for the life of me locate the serial and model number. Others have told me it's inside the hood on the support floor for the engine. It's not there. I've look everywhere. Any ideas? the hood says "55 alternator". Thanks.

I can't help with the number location though most motors it appears somewhere on the mounting bracket. It will begin with a 55.First appeared in 67 44.7 cubes ran at least to 76 then another model 49.9 cubes 77-83.
A detailed description of the ignition components may help date also pictures
may help.

Re: chrysler 55 serial number

If its a two carb 55 there should be an aluminum plate about 1 1/4 by 2 1/2 inches on the lower rear starboard block just forward of the head. Single carb 55 should have the plate on the lower pan right in front of the choke solenoid and next to the hood clamp. A lot of grease and junk accumulate there so it may be difficult to see. If you see two small round head escution pins there or two small holes, the plate has either broken off or been removed. As far as I know, no Chrysler ever had a model plate on the engine mount clamps.

Thanks, Frank. It looks like it has been removed. One hole and one pin is still there.
