Hi to all,
Just bought chrysler 55 hp 2 weeks a go and I had couple problems with it, woodruff key was broken, one point was close all the time, fixed all that, fire on the 2 plug.
When I try to start, it start right away so I try to stop it and it wouldnt, I had to disconect the - of the battery. I wire the ingnition key with the power, ignition and starter. I realise that when the key is turn off the starter and igniton are conected, did this cause the motor not to stop?

After that, it didnt start only backfire, still fire on the 2 plug, woodruff ok.
Need help!

Re: Chrysler 55hp 1967 backfire

You seem to be describing a battery and coil ignition. Proper wiring of the switch is red to bat terminal, green to choke, yellow to start, and blue to ign. The blue supplies power to the coils and the points interrupt the power, producing the spark. The ign terminal is only connected to the batt terminal when the switch is in start or run position. When you turn off the key, no power flows to the coils.

The two M terminals are not used. They are the stop circuit for magneto ignition engines.

Thanks Frank, yes it is a battery and coil ignition. I'm going to get a carb cleanner can, hope it will help the problem of back firering, it was mention in couple thread that was cause of lean fuel.
Sorry for my english I am from Quebec.;)
