I am disassembling above motor to get drive shaft out of cranck ( rusted )

Is there anything else that holds powerhead to midsection besides the 6 bolts. Bolts are out, but powerhead still married to midsection ???? :(

In the seloc manual it says the lower main oil seal is staked in place at the parting line of crankcase and block. On my 55, the drive shaft just splined into the crank. It also says to use 2 pieces of wood wedged under the powerhead to stabilize the block.I don't know if this helps.

Hi Dane
I'm sorry, my list does not show Chrysler offering a 5hp model in 1973or72. Interesting?
I did look at some parts manuals for earlier models and they show 8 fasteners. I believe if your model had 8 instead of 6 this would be very apparent to you as they don't seem to be hidden.

Thanks for replies

I am not perfectly sure about the year. It is similar to a 1969 4.4 HP I have too. Can only see 6 fasteners, but it seems like something is binding.

Hi Dane
My list says your motor is a 1969 model. If you can post your e-mail address I'll try and send you some info.

Still no progress on this. We tried everyting we thought of. It seems like powerhead binds at the rear end to mid section. Cant see any more fasteners. What needs to be removed before removing powerhead. Pullstart ?? Carb ?? We can only see 6 fasteners. Motor is like the 6-8 HP on Chechryslercrew 1973 brochure, tiller bends up/down. Pull start. Does anyone have a manual ? hard to get by here in DK for a motor that old.

Does your engine have motor leg covers. I assume it does and that you have removed them. I assume you have removed the shock mount if applicable and also the shift linkage. So, assuming all that, I'm kinda stumped too. If it's binding at the rear of the motor leg, that's the exhaust section.

Re: Chrysler 5HP 1973 Rattling and miss now and then !!

Are there anyone out there who has a manual or an exploded photo. I dont think it is a 1969, as it looks exactly like the 1974 6 HP. It has the fold up/down tiller that was introdused as news in 73.

Powerhead binds til mid section at exhaust end. Does a manual say anything about seperating powerhead from mid section, and what to remove first ?? any help will be appreciated.

Well took this project up again, after he ran a 4,5 merc/ oars for some time. The Chrysler is doing fine now, running strong. We got it running today. However it seems to rattle some at iddle, nothing when it gets revn up. When I rotate flywheel like shaking a bit back and forth, you can hear all parts inside rattle. Are these prone to do that ?? Does anyone know ?. Seems fine at mid and higher rpm, no odd sounds accelerating or anything else. BTW its horrible to work on. Getting those throttle linckage on down the side of the powerhead is a nightmare, I havnt got an intact finger left of any of the hands. But got it on an last.

First time out it started to miss on one cylinder after 15-20 min. Ran fine for a while, then missed again for some time. When I pulled flywheel on this one, complete ignition system looked brand new, still factory warranty laquer on screws, even on adjustment screws on points. Both points were exactly at 0.020. I cleaned them with 1500 paper. Coils and wires looks like new from yesterday, although from 69, must have real low hours. What to look for ?? Condenser ? All connections and points looks fine.
