Chrysler 5HP WONT RUN IN SLOW

I have just purchased a Chrysler 5HP 1975-76 Model 54HD Serial# 9533. It idles and runs perfectly in the FAST mode but when I slide it the other way to SLOW position the motors quits. Any help out there? Thanks Suzie

You may need to adjust the idle mixture.Start with it one turn out from gently bottomed. then adjust it idling in gear warm.
