Chrysler 6 HP - only one spark

The model is 64H9E. Getting spark only from the top plug.

Checked the resistance and it's all reading good in both coils/wires.

I've cleaned both points and have been screwing with the gaps, but I consistently only get the top one sparking.

What I noticed that is strange is that I got 1 spark from the bottom wire 3 times, all of which happened right after I put the flywheel back on. The spark only came once, and didn't come again anymore. Both times that it happened, it happened on the first crank after I put the flywheel back on.

I think that's a clue, but I don't know what it means.

Well IF you have the contact gap right AND the contacts are clean and you did he coil tests right then it only leaves the condenser to change ..you could try swapping them over and see if the spark moves....

I got it fixed. Cleaned the contacts once more and I have a spark in both. Cleaned the carb and now everything should be dandy but still not getting it to start. It fired for one split second once when I saw a lot of air pushed out of the exhaust, but that's it. Haven't gotten it to go yet. Starting to run out of tricks.

Still can't get it to start!

Carburetor is clean and spark is on both plugs. I tried with choke on and off. The most I've gotten was one blow of exhaust and one loud snap. Sometimes it seems to catch but doesn't fire. What can I do?

P.S. I noticed after pulling the starter for a while there is a bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust and it smells like when you just start the motor, you know with the oil burning off a bit. I even poured gasoline into the cylinders where the spark plugs go and still didn't get it to fire.

As fucawi stated, "Condensors" relatively cheap, and will do what you are experiencing. I know for the bigger 2cylinder Chryslers the condensor part # at your local NAPA if FM200, about $11-16 bucks. Another member cross referenced this part number to a different vendor that was cheaper, I will look for it and report back.

Re: Chrysler 6 HP - only one spark

thanks for the help, but I guess I should have made a new thread of it. I already have the spark. Both plugs are firing great. Still cannot get it to fire. I even poured gasoline into the cylinders and it still doesn't fire.

Yes spark.
Yes gasoline.
No fire.

How can that be? Wizardry?

Ok, now it is time to look at the manual. I know it sucks to shell out the 30 or so bucks, but it is well worth the $. Or.... Start a new thread asking for a downloadable version? I am thinking timing may be off, but I am not familiar with the little guys like yours. Are there timing marks on the flywheel?

Key is in good shape, as far as I could tell.

We have compression. Didn't check how much but it shoots the finger off.

Economate2 you must get a manual. There are things in there that you just can not get from a forum. I found a free pdf manual on google as a torrent file. Not sure if it will be for your model but have a look http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5610901
It says its for all 3/4 cylinder engines. You will need to know how to download torrent files. Google it. Good luck. i know how stressful it can be. Im in same situation as you.
