I have a '79 Chrysler model 64h9e serial 5561 that won't start. It has been in storage for a while and mailed to me. The plugs are good and the motor clean. Thankyou.

Hi, Tim.

Go to the Engine FAQ section and do the "Outboard wont start" topic.

Good luck. :)

I looked under faq and the answers were for motors with starters. I'll try a couple of those things if I can.

Re: Chrysler 6hp outboard

The basics are to rebuild carb and fuel pump if it has one. Also new plugs, new fuel lines. Can do all this for about 25 bucks. Then drain and re fill lower unit with new oil. Might not hurt to squirt some oil into the cylinders and crank on it a couple of times to loosen it up in there. Most important is get a manual. It will make it a lot easier when you start taking stuff apart.

Oh yeah. If it has an external gas can you might want to get a new plastic one. If not try flushing out gas tank with gas and drain into a glass mason jar and check for debris
