Chrysler 75?? When Made??

Greetings,

Hoping you could help me out with the manufacture date of a friends Chrysler 75 outboard.

Model #856X8A serial # 1839

The model number is for an 85 hp, not 75. The build date is unclear.

An 85?? Really! Thanks. I'll check the model number again to be sure. The cowl is a 75. Possibly a replacement cowl. Thanks for your help. I'll get back with more info.

It is a 1988 force 85 HP

Thanks for your response and clarification. I have to assume then, that the cowl on this engine is an incorrect replacement since it is clearly a Chrysler 75 cowl.

Well,

After further inspection and, asking my friend to quiz the previous owner of his boat and outboard, it seems that the original Force outboard, an 85hp, was replaced with the present 75hp Chrysler. When the replacement was done, the original Force bracket was left in place and the Chrysler mounted to it. So, we have no idea at all what the serial number of the Chrysler 75 outboard would be. Oh well!

Probably not much help but According to my after market manual the 75 was in production in 66/67 and apparently dropped 69-73. 75s last year was 84
I think the early Forces were white.Chrysler 69 up have Magnapower ignition.3 types of Magnapower ignitions were used.The experts may be able to tell year by which ignition and if it has a distributor.

If the whole engine was mounted to the transom brackets, look inside the lower cowl where the control cables and fuel line enter. ALL Chryslers had an ID plate mounted there with model and serial numbers.

Thank you! Since I'm not familiar with Chryslers, (I have a Mercury 75) I wouldn't even have thought there might be another id plate.

When my friend returns from his Sacramento delta fishing trip Sunday, I'll check it out.
