Chrysler 75HP - Not pumping water with ear muffs but ok in water

Hi folks,

I'm in Sydney and have a '74 75HP Chrysler that pumps plenty of water when it is in the river but when I take it home and put the ear muffs on it doesn't, the temp gauge beeps after about a minute.

Any suggestions?

Replace the impeller. No question about it, it is starting to go and you have been warned. A marginal impeller will have trouble priming on muffs but when you dunk the lower unit in the water, the whole pump is below water level and easily primes. Then, impact pressure while running at speed will keep it primed.

That impeller is not available at iboats so if you can not find it locally, contact franzmarine @aol.com
