New plugs.
Hard starting.
Once it's running it's great.
Turn off and it doesn't want to re-start.
Just went through the carb.
New accelerator pump.Good gas.

When the breather is off:
Motor warm.
The choke plate is closed.
Sometimes it will start right back up.
Sometimes not.
Sometimes it needs the choke plate opened to start.
Sometimes it needs it closed to start.
Sometimes it will start right off.
Sometimes it needs the throttle all the way open to start.
Any ideas???

Ayuh,.... Every Chrysler I've seen had a AFB carb,... But anyways,...

When Warm, the choke should be Open,... fix the choke...

Need to restate.
When warm the choke opens under vacuum.
It works like it's supposed to.
When shut down it closes like it should.
When trying to restart.
The choke closes like it's supposed to.
Some times it starts sometimes it doesn't.

I think the carbs were a replacement?????.

Yes.Throttle all the way.
Sometimes it will restart,no problem.
Then it won't restart unless the chokes open or closed.

Definatly not like the EFI or my truck.

Re: Chrysler mid 80's Quadrajet 4bl.

Sounds more like ignition to me, like the pickup coil in the distributor is not putting out like it used to, or the module itself is acting up, or wiring from the pickup coil has breaks or splices between it and the module. Could be module has lost a good ground. I am envisioning this being a Chrysler type electronic ignition setup. If it is a leanburn then I will beg off the thread.

Chrysler used QJ's on some police setups in late 70's and on into the 80's, not very many and very specialized.

What is this engine in? Just curious now... :)

Maclin.Turns out the ignition was most of the problem.
The fuel pump is too.
The acelerator pump too.
Put in a new pickup and it starts great. Now gonna eplace the FP and AP.
Thanks,J

It's a 1972 Uniflite.Twin 340 Chryslers.It's an old Coast Guard boat.
Used as a patrol boat and a transporter/shuttle.
I think I finnaly have it right???
The owner's father rebuilt the carb:(
It was a BAD job.
He assembled it with the metering rods attached. One rod went into one hole and the other had a 120deg bend.
Must have tried to screw the top section down and bent the rod.
The AP was ripped and it was full of crap/water/crust.
Supposed to be a good/new AP
The fuel pump bad!
His dad is supposed to be a mech???
Thanks for the help.
