Hi. I'm only new to using forums so hope I'm doing it right. I have owned a 1973 Chrysler 120HP outboard for many years. The last few times I've used my boat, the boat well at the back of the boat has had a large amount of what looks to be oil/fuel mix with water that has turned into a yellow oily liquid. It is also on the leg of the outboard after I get it out of the water after a few minutes. It just seems to seep out. It isn't gearbox oil as the gearbox oil is clean with no water in it. The engine runs fine and starts on the first click every time I use it, even if I haven't used my boat for over a year. If anyone can help with where this oily mixture is coming from and how to fix it, I would be greatful. Thank you, George

It does sound like a frothy oil/gas/water mix. Alot of times when a head gasket goes out on a 4 stroke the oil filler cap will have the same yellow "slime" along with breathers ect. I would begin by checking the carbs for leaking gas. I am lost where the gas and water would get churned up enough to cause the froth though. The only thing I can think of is going through the impeller but I don't really see that happening. Run the motor with the cowling off and check for water leaks around the head and fuel leaks around the fuel pump. But if it was coming from the engine cowling it very well could drain down the leg from the top.
