I suppose if you are into experimentation and tinkering, you could follow through with the conversion. However, if it were me, I'd certainly find out what's wrong with it first. If the coils are shot, changing the points to transisters won't help a bit. On the other hand, that motor may have a Wico magneto, and they are notorious for developing a soft corrosion on the points' contacts that resembles mold. Whatever the mfr, polish the contacts shiny bright, adjust the gap to .020", and it will probably run......if the coils are good.
