Hi Y'Awl,

Had a 196? or 197? 6 hp Chrysler OB than ran good but was hard to start. Now have a 1997 Force 15 hp that starts on 1st or 2nd pull cold and 1/4 pull hot and is pleasant to use. both OB's run about the same ... noisy, vibrations, the works ... LOL I would like to know what UsMarine and Merc have changed in the Chrysler original OB to end up with the Force (by Mercury)

It appears the C and F 15 hp are very similar Including the Tillotson and Walbro carbs. The blow ups of assemblies appear to almost to be from the same book.
Some of the Chryslers had Magnapower ignition It appears Force went to regular breaker point ignition.
It appears the Force 5 hp is based on the old Chrysler 3.5/4 hp single from the 70s and 80s.with matching bore and stroke.
Again pictures appear almost as they came from the same book.
I believe there may have been some subtle refinements to derive 6 hp from 5 cu. in.

I thought I had read that Mercury had made some important modifications to the UsMarine/Force motor prior to adding 'by Mercury Marine' to the name and that some of you would know what those modifications where. Guess not ...

I ve owned just about every brand of OB's and Chryslers Force OB's were not the worst I've used ... not the best either ... but you get what you pay for, so comparisons with more expensive OB's is not fair play.

Thank you ... yes it is the HMS Victory at 1/24 scale. Was built by my uncle who first visited the real thing in Portsmouth then decided to build one.

Each and every parts are hand made using miniature tools that my uncle first built prior to doing the boat.

About 3000 hours of work on it ... a few things left to do on it ... like sails. I offered it to the Queen's private museum ... but they replied they already had a few.

For sale ... lol

Chrysler/Force had no frills which explains the lower price, but basicaly and in my experience with them (6 hp - 15 hp - 90 hp) , they run fine for normal OB usage like lakes and intercoastal (the 90hp) ... would I pick that brand to cross the ocean ... probably not since there is better to choose from ... lol

Cheers
