Re: chyrsler outboards any good boat has twin 700
That's a nice set-up. If you don't mind working on the engines yourself, yeah, it's probably worth it. After all, you are getting two engines. If the engines are working well, it is worth it. If not working well---ehhh--not so sure. Those 3 cyl engines are nice little powerplants and easy to work on. Parts are available at old outboard sites.
But it's still a crapshoot. They are used engines and they are old. They may run longer than you live or they may not. And that would be true for any brand old engine. But also face it: in the long run, even if the engines perform well, you will spend a lot more than 1,000 just in gas and oil. So, 1,000 is not really a lot to spend.
So, if the boat and engines look nice and you are satisfied with the price, then it is worth it. But I would insist on a trial run before actually buying. The engines always "ran before laying up the boat". Yeah! they ran and blew up and then he laid up the boat.
Chrysler boats were actually Lone Star boats bought out by Chrysler and some were re-designed. In my opinion, they were a quality built boat. There is a website for Chrysler afficionados.--Chrysler Crew.
