you can also run 2c heavy wires up to console and wire the trim motor directly to a switch. Use a 20A slo-blow fuse on the positive power into switch. You may even find a blank spot in your fuse panel. Make sure that the wires feeding from battery to your fusebox can handle the additional 20A without melting.

16/2 SO is the minimum wire size between switch and motor. It would be the emergency size and will probably end up melting if you make it permanent. 12/2 boat wire with white jacket is available from my local hardware store for $1 a foot. It's perfect. If you need a bunch then you can buy it elsewhere for about half.

You'll need a double-pole, double throw, center off, momentary contact switch. My local hardware store sells them in the marine department for $6. It will have six posts on the back. Wire the batterry to the middle two. Wire the motor to bottom pair for "up" and run jumpers to bottom pair that flip polarity for "down".

eh, error correction ----

this is incorrect:
Wire the motor to bottom pair for "up" and run jumpers to bottom pair that flip polarity for "down".

I should have said:
Wire the motor to bottom pair for "up" and run jumpers to top pair that flip polarity for "down".

I use a simple mnemonic to remember down and up wire colors: Green is the color of the sea and blue is the color of the sky. Say it once and you will never need to again.

I thought I had a document. here is simplified trim wiring diagrams. Not everything shown, just the basics. four pages.
2w std., 2w direct to switch, 3w std, and modifying relays for 3w motor.
