we had a New satelite ready radio installed. 1st the ads are extremely misleading, free installation. but the don't tell you, you have to buy a special kit. we set up appointment for installation. they did not have all the parts ready, took 2 hours to go to other stores to get the parts.

after installation, our airbag indicator, showed our airbags were disabled. their response was there was nothing in there they could have knocked loose. after several discussions with the store manager, national customer service.

i took the car in to have the item fixed. problem solved $200. the indicator plug was disconnected behind the radio.

Circuit City is still denying any responsibility. looks like it going to small claims.

Go get em.

They were a fine outfit at one time and now seem to be steadly going down hill. I guess Best Buy is really hurting them. Maybe if people follow thru with their complaints they'll get the message.

Most stereo work on newer vehicles requires the SRS (airbag) be disconnected to prevent accidental deployment. I took the course to be Mobile Electronics Certified.

I was at a Circuit City in Appleton, WI a while ago and heard a loud bang from the install bay.. Walked over to catch a glimpse of a newer Cadillac with both front airbags blown.... Tech never disconnected the harness. Oops.

DId you use Plastic? Call the Credit Card company and contest the charge until it is settled. That gets attention fast.

Re: Circuit City BEWARE

Most domestic (and import) vehicles incorporate a retaining pin into the airbag wiring harness. This prevents the harness from becoming disconnected by accident.

The green one used here is very common on all brands: http://www.likeabigdog.com/column/column6.jpg

So if your harness was simply unpluged.... somebody did it.

I agree......go get em! Though there is a small chance I might be a tad bit biased :D

I remember before I began working for their competition hearing stories of their sales people pocketing rebates they negleted to tell customers about. Thats why I enjoy being in non commission sales.

May as well add my demerits to the list.I went and bought a new HP puter from them mainly because the sales add said it came with several FREE programs installed (microsolf office was one). Seemed like a good deal but around 60 days after it was put into service POOF! The FREE programs stoped working and had expired and it cost me over a hundred bucks to get them back. Very fine print not shown in the sales add said the programs were FREE for only a limited time and the sales clerk never mentioned it .Very misleading and I will never trust them again. Best BUY isnt any better, they also suck when it comes to service.

Just wanna second that, I know a couple of people who got jobbed by them.
One contacted Mich's Attorney General and got very prompt resolution.
It's all in the fine print.

My experience with CC has been the opposite.

I bought a Sony 55" TV, with 1 year extended warranty. A year later the optics module warped. They sent a tech 65 miles to pick it up. I had it back, fixed, in 4 days. No charge. The tech told me the module would have been $1600.

Too often the parent company takes the flack for local incompetence as though incompetence was company policy.

Circuity City is SCUM!

Just look at the price of CC stock as compared to Best Buy.

Over the years I have always found their staff a bunch of Bull Sh*tters and very unknowledgable. So I always try and shop at Best Buy, but this time I got sucked in by a CC rebate.

Best Buy does not use rebates anymore, but of course CC still does knowing the 75% of people fail to send in the rebate form (Wall Street Journal article) by forgetting or missing the short deadline. This allows them to advertise at lower prices.

I bought an HP laptop from them and Best Buy had the "same" model cheaper during the same week when I came across a flyer after my CC purchase.

Not only wouldn't they honor the price match they were down right rude about it. So I returned the CC unit and they charged me a 20% re-stocking fee, because it was now an open box.

I filed a complaint with the NY Attorney General's office and it came back as Circuit City would not do anything about it.

Why . . . because they are going to go bankrupt and could care less.

They have closed a bunch more stores and are looking for a buyer.

TD, if you went to Orange Park, they suck.
I gave up on them 10 years ago.
Kids with minimal training. Had to help them set up a surround sound for me.

I would guess the prompt resolution had less to do with an Attorney General and more to do with the company not wanting to deal with some petty issue when they have more important things going on.

I can assure you that there are just as many retail managers with stories about unruly customers as there are customers with stories about getting "jobbed".

You are right, there is fine print......but most consumers understand that, ask questions, or read. The rules are there for a reason......usually to protect either the consumer or the company. Its not all Black and White as you may think.......and the customer isn't always right. Today I escorted one out of the building for telling the general manager that he would "Rip her (explitive) head off"....................why? because he wanted to return something 3 months outside of return policy. CRAZY

I do agree with JB though.........it really isn't fair to judge an entire corporation from a few of its employees in one of hundreds of locations.

Every company has its faults.

Just to throw in my 2 cents...

That's because incompetence usually is the company policy. You see, you get what you pay for, so when a company tries to save money by hiring cheap (and consequently unexperienced) labor, they get what they pay for... incompetence. Of course that very decision to hire cheap unskilled labor for skilled jobs is an example of an incompetent decision made in the upper management of the company, so really the company is taking the flak right where it is deserved.

I actually prefer CC. I most often find better deals there. I never seem to get the lowest price at BB. In fact most of there stuff is higher in price.

As far as salespeople are concerned, I usually know what i want when I go in because I usually do a lot of research prior to buying. I usually don't rely on them for advice.

Re: Circuit City BEWARE

Son got a high buck sound system for his car his mother paid for it before I knew from Best Buy and paid them to install it. when I removed it from the car later I saw a very half arse job had been done. they left out about half of the screws. Later went there 3 days before xmas to get wife an ipod.....They had nothing to sell me and after waiting 5 minutes for a clerk who was one the phone and she saw me waiting, she quickly hung it up turned her back and very quickly walked away with me hollering "miss" "miss". When I bought a tv there the jerk ran a fork lift through it and then brought it up to the front. I said "go get me another one and this time dont run the lift through it or the deals off" true morons. I will say CC at least had a full stock of ipods(same price) .
