ok or not ok. with the eng not running and out of water what should be the result if i put the thing in foward gear and walk back to turn the prop clockwise should it still spin or not. if i turn it counterclockwise it wont turn. ok if i shift in rev and try to turn the prop it wont turn in either direction. also in netural it spins both directions with no prob, has little clicks.havent had it back in water yet just want to be prepaired if it's broke i think last weekend while slowing to no wake zone it made a clacking noise we were on our way to load up and go home so what can i do out of water ? when i put it on the muffs and ran the motor it went into rev with the norm soft shift but when put in foward it seemed to have little or no resestance at least not the same as reverse.

Welcome to iboats.

Forward gear rachets. Reverse locks in both ways. It's the design of the cogs on the shifter and the gears. Sometimes on rapid deceleration, you'll hear the racheting from the gearcase which is perfectly normal and harmless.
