Well, the boat has run smooth for almost a year now, so figures something has to happen. A quick run-down: 1992 Mercruiser 3.0L (115 HP) w/ Alpha One Gen II outdrive. I took the boat out a couple weeks ago, and the drain plug got stuck in the boat, so I could not remove it. The boat sat for two weeks, and we have some heavy rain in that time, so I had standing water in the boat, about three inches below the bottom of the alternator. I drained the water, looked everything over, started the engine, and everything seemed fine. I took the boat out Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. It ran great, maybe a little water in fuel, which I will address. Now, yesterday after I got off the boat, I brought it home for the cleaning ritual. Here's where the fun begins:
I was flushing the engine out, outdrive all the way down, boat completely in neutral (no throttle), I heard a loud clank coming from the outdrive. Then I heard it again a couple seconds later, just a loud, single clank. It almost sounds like the clank when you are shifting into gear. I ran the boat for a few more minutes to see if it would happen again, but it did not. Does anyone have any idea what this noise could be caused from? Thank you in advance for any help.
