Love the looks of that one! No interest in owning it, but I really like the way it looks. A relative of mine has a '57 Chevy and he tows a '57 boat (not sure what kind) that is painted turquoise and white to match the car. He takes it to car shows and does pretty well. This boat kind of reminds of that one.

The whole thing is cool and if in condition he claims it is worth every penny - and a lot more to a collector! If I had the jingle I would drive to get it...

She's a beauty, she has the lines of the older Glastrons (by that, i mean the white swirl on the side)

I thought wood boats eventually..... shrink? so to speak? If the wood isn't kept wet seasonally it dries and develops cracks between the boards? Having been out of the water for 20 years, couldn't there potentially be some trouble or problem areas in the hull?

Really cool looking older boat, but I'd agree the price seems way low if it really is in such great shape.

In basic wooden boats, the planks will shrink if they dry out, so you "swell" them with wet towels or a shallow water launch. The boat is supposed to be built to accomodate this (like the art of laying real hardwood floors). You can fill the gaps with oakum, which also swells and plugs the cracks. I have this old tool that was probably my granfather's that I recently learned it is for installing oakum between planks, from back in our family's wooden boat days.

I don't know about the effect on more finished wood boats such as this one.

thanks for explaining that - I have a 26 foot lake boat I let rot to hell - after I bought it from the PO who had put fiberglass strips on the bottom - then he got ill, and it sat outside for 15 years... It was my first project, and i was 21 years old back then... After I ripped the fiberglass off, and saw the massive gaps between the planks I deemed it all too futile and towed it out and parked it as an ornament on our family's private road to the cottages... Still looks cool! :)

Wooden lapstrake hulls swell themselves waterproof. Often, just filling the bilge with water makes it float again.

The tool is called a caulking knife or a caulking iron depending on what region the speaker is native to.

Re: classic "barn find"

my woodie has glass applied up to the spray rails, thus no need to soak it before launching for the season.as you can see in the avatar its painted by choise.unpainted it looks just like the top which is varnished.now a days we use epoxy resin and glass and if applied properly its transparent and very durable.my boat does not leak a drop atall !
