I'm a newbie to the 'real boat' world, but have spent lots of time out on the water in the little tinny.

My friend and I did a lot of sailing around with the tinnies, more than most people would believe...and I kept saying I wanted a comfortable boat, with a back on the seat and a steering wheel.
My wife was tired of me spending all day Sunday with my left arm krinked around behind me...from spending 8 hours on the boat Saturday with my hand on the tiller.
I found a cost-effective (cheap) boat parked in a field with grass growing up around it. (no, really!) Shelled out $1250.00 canadian, and came home with a Comet Traveler, circa 1963(ish) and a 1975 Evinrude 20hp outboard.
I had no clue as to the age of the boat when I brought it home, and assumed it was late 70's..(boat-dumb)
Anyways, poking around and reading forums, I find that it's a classic. :)
http://www.fiberglassics.com/arktrav/index.html
The logo's identical to the Arkansas Traveler logo, and they had a plant in Peterborough Ontario. I'd guess mine came from there.

What I'm looking for, is someone who's keen on the classics, and might be able to shed some more light on my boat. I went through the brochures and suck at the link above, bit I can't find one that looks exactly like mine.
Pics of mine here - http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/ascarter/Boat/Index.html (My camera gives the hull a yellow tinge, but it's actually nice and pretty :p )
Does anyone remember such a beast?
The boat cleaned up real nice, and over the last month I've been giving it the TLC that it's been deprived of for the last 30 or so years.
It would really mean a lot to me if anyone had some info on the 'Traveler Boat Company'..or pics of similar boats.....anything at all.
I'd love to find out more about where it came from, exactly what year it is...all that good stuff.
For the record, the kids love the boat....and we're really enjoying it. Gives us an excuse to spend time together as a family ;-) AND, I haven't forgotten the plug once! (Broke a shear pin, lost the outer half of the prop, broke a recoil spring...but never forgot the plug)
It was an experiment...get something basic and cheap, then if we find that we enjoy boating as much as I hope we will, we'll go bigger and better in a few years.

So...please...anyone with any info or pics, or stories...I'm open to whatever I can get.

And lastly, have a look at the bow light in the pics...where the heck can I get a green lens for THAT? The light works, but the green lens is missing. I could buy a new bow light, but would rather keep the original. It just looks..right.

If you post here, could you also email the reply to me? Again, I'm looking for anything...other Traveler owners, whatever..
fishguy@NOSPAMnbnet.nb.ca (remove the obvious to email me)
Thanks! And happy boating.

Try a close-up shot of that light so we can make it out better. Have you tried the larger boating stores for lenses yet? How about any local boat graveyards?

Nice no-nonsense lines on that boat, similar to my 14' 1964 Glastron.

Re: Classic fibreglass 14' boat - Newbie Questions..

I revamped the web page a bit...with some close-ups of the bow light. http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/fishguy/
I have the red lens, am in need of a green one...it was missing when I purchased the boat.
I'd pick up a new light, but the ridge that goes from the bow to the windscreen is shaped to fit that exact light...a new light just wouldn't look right.

Again...if anyone has any info/pics of a boat like mine, or can tell me the manufacturer and year (Title says Comet Traveler, but the logo is the same as an Arkansas Traveler)
I can't find an ID plate anywhere on the boat, except for the traveler logo on each side, near the stern.

Thanks in advance...as I've had lots of questions from people on the water...but I have to say "Well, I think it's a....but not exactly...and it's a 62..or 63..maybe a 64..."
Help :)

NEW SITE - http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/fishguy/

Re: Classic fibreglass 14' boat - Newbie Questions..

I have tried the 3 boat dealers in the area, and 2 pretty much shrugged and said I'd never find one. (Not much help)
One dealer DID go all through his suppliers books and had one of his guys dig through some old stuff they had but no luck.
I'm in Moncton, NB..eastern Canada....there's not a HUGE boating community here, compared to a city of the same size in a warmer climate.

Thanks in advance again!

There was a Bow Light exactly like that one on Ebay the other day. Don't know if it still is but you can do a search for lights there.

Thanks Bill. I had a look, and found some similar, but not the exact one.
Like I said, I'm pretty sure I'll have to make a lens myself, since the ridge from the bow to the windscreen is shaped for that particular light...there's a 'dip' in the fibreglass just under the light...anything else would just look wrong.
thanks again!

AC_NB_Canada
Try the fiberglassics site. Someone there might know what you have and might even be able to help find a light. You can post pics right on their message board.

www.fiberglassics.com
