Why does iboats have a parts section in the classified section so people can swap used parts? One mans junk is another mans treasure.

Re: Classified section

Mainly because iboats is a FOR PROFIT site that sells parts and all kinds of boating accessories while offering the forum to its customers and potential customers FOR FREE. Why would they want to offer a free site that would be in competition with their for profit site?

You have ebay, craigslist, and other online classified sites you can go to for used parts. iboats does not need the liability or the competition on their own site. Does that make sense?

YEARS ago we did have a "Thrifties" area, and it was hardly ever used.

Re: Classified section

makes total sense but i thought there was enough people who would still by new and other would by used. I find it a little harder to find the specific things on CL and ebay never win or never get decent deal with what i bid on. But does make sense

thanks

Re: Classified section

This has come up many times over the years, and been discussed many times and admin has always said the same thing. No classifieds.

Re: Classified section

I understand what you are saying, but again, looking at this from the other side:

I post a used part for sale at $12. You want it and ask me the condition and to ship it to you. We make arrangements and I charge you another $10 shipping. You get this part and it is broken, or doesn't fit your needs. You complain to me and I tell you to stick it, you bought a used part, as is, no warranty.

Now, you get mad and me and you complain to iboats about it, because it was on there site that you arranged this transaction. If they don't do anything (because they had nothing in it and might have lost a new part sale because of it) you are mad at them. Or they can spend time trying to mitigate the problem, but that is costing them time and resources for something they had nothing in. In the end, both parties will probably be upset at iboats and all they did was offer a service that hurt their core business.

If it weren't for the fact that bad things sometimes happen during used part sales, they would possibly do it. But because it would be something they could have little control over, unless they were charging a fee for the service, it would only hurt them. And how many people would really be excited about a fee?

Been discussed here lots of times. Same result.

Re: Classified section

I understand all angles, iboat covering their ***. I always understand the logistic behind the advantages and disadvantages. That’s why PayPal can be a benefit when it comes to transactions like these but usually more of a headache.

As im looking for parts for a rebuild i often look at places with good source of people (connections, maybe not quality of people as i cant speak for the masses, but...) i tend to have had successful transaction from my street swapping days.

Re: Classified section

As you spend time on these forums you will develop great relationships with people who may have access to the things you need. The PM feature can be your friend in those instances ...
