clean the hull?? what is needed/can be used

i just recently purchased a 17 ft 1988 cunchaser 1702 with a 3.o mercruiser and alpha 1 when doing some repairs on the trailer i noticed there is this dried brown fuzzy stuff all over the bottom when i touched it i just crumbled i am thinking that it is dried moss as the previous owner kept it at his lake lit and it does have a water ring on it fomr it sitting in the water so my question is what can i use to clean it off as i know that it would proball effect the proformance of it or do i just sproy it down with somthing like simple green and take it to a car wash and hose it off or would it need more then that and and all info is greatly appreciated and many thanks in advance

I used this yesterday and it worked great.

1. Get a bucket, toilet bowl cleaner (no chlorine), hydrogen peroxide, and a sponge. Mix 50/50, apply. Ventilate well.

Another option is muriatic acid. Mixed 50/50 with water.
Muriatic acid sells for about $3 per gallon in the paint sections of many big boxes. I think I use about a quart or so of the mix each year.
I keep my boat wet pretty much constantly for 6 months, and the concoction just dissolves the mossy crap like magic.
As with any acid, must use appropriate measures to protect yoursef and your boat. Do a google search on the subject for details.
I'm sure you'll get a lot of other effective suggestions, just pick the one that sounds best to you.

I use a 3000psi pressure washer on mine when I pull it for the winter.

I used this on my boat when it was severely covered in algae from sitting in Lake Huron for 6 months straight (previous owner ) Works excellent, won't disappoint. On top of that just use a pressure washer to rinse (1800 psi did good)
Won't come off just pressure washing (even 3000 psi)

the pros use industrial toilet bowl cleaner from janitorial shops.

it contains muriatic acid, and also other chemicals to remove hard water stains that muriatic acid alone wont touch.

just use all safety equipment, spray the cleaner on the boat......use a long handled brush....scrub the boat lightly.....rinse off.....wax.....done

with the stuff being dry would it be best tot take it to a car wash and use their equiptmet to see if it hoses off firse and maybe use their brush?? i am not even sure what this stuff is i know the boat has been out of the water for at least 3 weeks now for sure so what ever this stuff is it is dried up i am totally loast and confused here and about the wax can i use any automotive wax on it of do i have to use a marine wax as well-- thi stuff is on the bottom of the hull only as i am not currently concerned about the water line i will take care of that at a later time and many thanksagain

You can try anything you want, but if it's the same stuff that gets on my boat when I pull it out of the lake, even a pressure washer isn't going to make much of a dent. At least in my experience it didn't. My pressure washer is rated at 2700 psi. But if a good scrubbing at a car wash is all you need, then you'll be sitting pretty.

Not sure how it will do on what you have, but I have found that Spray Nine is probably one of the best cleaners on the planet.

I believe it was originally created for marine use, but for some reason, it's not well known (created in 1954 or something like that). It works well on vinyl too.

I used it on grease and dirt stains left by the mechanic after an engine replacement, they came off with little to no effort. I couldn't get them off with de-greaser or anything else, so I was amazed!

I also used Spray Nine on my hull, it worked 10x better than Hull Cleaner.

So, to sum it up, go to Home Depot and buy a gallon ($12), a spray bottle of it ($5, or just buy a spray bottle to use, I like to have one clearly marked as to what's in it) and a pack of green scouring pads.

I use waterless hand cleaner (paste form) on a brush. Then rinse it off with the hose, works great.
