So I was in the middle of restoring the oil pan from the old engine on my sea ray, bought it with cracked block, had finished sanding it down and cleaned it with easy off oven cleaner then used a pressure washer. Came back today and the inside looked like the easy off started eating away at the it. looks like hairline cracks and has many spots where the metal lifted away any formed small sharp numbs. I tried to sand some off but I'm not to sure if I would want to still reuse this. If in the future it got worse while on my new engine and one of the nubs fell off I could see some big trouble. Has any one ever seen this before? Should I be fine if I sand it all down real good?IMG_0079.jpgIMG_0080.jpgIMG_0081.jpg

So seems like I left the cleaner on for to long and it ate away at the alum. going to try and sand it down and see how smooth I can get it.

looks like normal casting marks. Pictures can be misleading but its looks fine to me.

Looks fine to me too, just flashing marks in the casting.

Grain boundaries of the aluminum itself that you can now see because the surface has been etched?
