Cleaned the Swim Step

Those white plastic swim step/ladders on the 1980's Bayliners can get grimy and dingy looking. Tried a few different cleaners without much success. The thing that worked best was plain old Comet Cleaner and a scrub brush and rag. The scrub brush gets the dirt out of the crevices like the non-skid diamond pattern, and the rag is for the smooth surfaces. Between the two and a lot of elbow power, it came rather clean. If I used the Comet with bleach it would probably look even better. Seems that good old scowering powder still out performs a lot of new-fangled cleaners.

good to know...im in a bad habit if using the swimstep for tools n stuff when im working on it, so mine gets kinda dirty n stuff sometimes. Ill have to try that. I did notice one weekend on the water splashin around and stuff and it looked waaay brighter when we pulled the boat out.

My much lazier solution was shooting it with Star-Brite and hitting it with the power washer. Of course, it stayed clean right up to the point where I put the boat in the water again. Those things are dirt magnets!

I probably have the same setup - cleaned mine really good and sprayed some 303 protectant on it. Doesn't seem to get dirty as quick and cleans up a tad easier as well.
And no, it doesn't make it slippery either. Pretty good stuff. .

A spray cleaner with bleach - even the store brand - works great on this with a little brush action and rinse / wipe takes the grim out of the treads!
