Cleaned Up Wiring Mess Finally

Last Year I bought the 1981 Sea Ray 260. It was maintained very well exterior, interior and mechanically.

However, the add-on electrical circuits were done sloppily.

This year I said it wasn't going in the water until I rewired the messy part. being an electrical engineer that has worked on design of military systems, I couldn't look at the mess anymore. I spent about 12 hrs crammed into the engine bay with heat-shrink connectors, blue sea systems fuse boxes and marine-grade wire.

Now I just need to replace the thermostat, de-winterize, and reinstall the outdrive and I will be ready to go!

Did you keep the wingnuts on the battery connections? If so, you failed the final exam.

Toss those things and use some hex nuts or Nylocs.

No, I didn't use the wing nuts. I had stainless nuts that fit. I might switch over to Nyloc nuts .

The black box is a Guest 3-stage, 10A charger that charges the 2 batteries. It came with the boat.

I also added a Safe-T-Alert fire, flood and fume detector while I was at it. This way I will get some warning if bad things are happening under the engine cover.
