Hello folks,

Can I take apart the heat exchanger on my 470 and drop it in a Muriatic acid and water solution to clean it out? Then reassemble it with new gaskets. I've done motorcycle fuel tanks and cast iron intakes and exhaust manifolds (automotive) this way? Or is the Radiator / Machine shop hot tank a better idea? I'm going over this engine / drive with a fine tooth comb, I don't know if it needs it, but I also don't know if it has ever been done.

The rad shop idea is best. They can pressure test it all after and give you a known value unit back. If you find a leak or worse then you would have to take it somewhere anyway. Most shops do not like to put a lot of effort into a bad unit so they check them over first to make sure it is worth working on.

You can clean it out with a wooden dowel the same size as the tubes. You also don't need new gaskets it used a rubber seal on the ends which is reusable.
