Soap and water. Nice vessel, by the way.

Looks somewhat sophisticated but can't really tell. Found a video with better pictures. Periscope appears to be all digital with two cameras shown at the top of the mast. It appears that there is some attempt to diffuse the diesel exhaust but it's very rudimentary.

No idea if it has an inner pressure hull but even at 30 ft, I'd certainly not trust the fiberglass outer hull to keep the ocean out of the "people locker".

100 ft long, you would think that would be capable of more than 8 tons of umm, cargo! Just a quick napkin calculation, but 100 feet long, 6 foot diameter tube will displace ~2800 cubic feet, * 63 pounds per cubic foot of water = ~178,000 pounds to get the thing to submerge. Obviously the weight of the sub itself, fuel, engines, etc, comes off that, but still...

(if that periscope is 16 ft high as they claim, there is at least 6 feet of hull above the waterline already. I suspect from the pictures it is more.)

The second link has a still picture that shows the mast in relation to the sub. That appears to be approximately 16' above the deck - not from the keel as we would nornmally measure a periscope. I believe they said that the hull was 3 meters in diameter. If you add the height of the mast, that would be a height of about 26' from the keel for periscope depth.

Lacking information as to permanent and temporary ballast, it's really hard to tell exactly what they have for room inside. Remember that they need space for the people and supplies in there too! Still a scary vessel. I certainly wouldn't want to be in there while out to sea - much less dive.

Ah General, sorry I missed my monthly payment to you. If I double it can I get my sub back?

Won't the mud help make it stealth?

As someone who has worked on LA Class, Trident Class, and Seawolf Class sea trials, I can't imagine being on that thing in rough seas. The article I read said they could only run 30 ft deep. Surface conditions make water really rough at that depth, and subs don't have a v hull - it's a round bottom. Think tin can rolling in the water. Course, I suppose they had better pay and motivation than I had!

Compared to some of the things they have run previously, this is a HUGE upgrade!

One of the photos showed a pointed hull so it may not be as bad as a modern submarine. Still, if periscope depth is only 30', it would be plenty rough in heavy seas. Add that to the sound and smell of the diesels! What fun!

Kick the tires, light the fires, station the maneuvering watch, and get this pig underway!

With the digital cameras I won't need a fish finder. Just get below the fish, put a float on the line and cast upwards. Oh yeah, does it have a screen door?
