Safe to eat? Yes, should be fine. Want to taste it while eating? Not a good idea.![]()
Really depends on how they were packed, I have cooked hams that were a couple of years old and they were fine.....were they vacuum packed?
Soups in a plastic 2 liter/quart container with lid on, and the meat is wraped in plastic and butchers paper (getting hungry now, MMMM white bean soup)
Hmmm, hamhocks gravy and beans!!!
You just gave me an idea for dinner!
I am sure my cardiologist thanks ya!
If they are only wrapped or in a plastic container, your probably going to have some pretty heavy freezer burn..I bought a vacuum packer a few years ago, because we were getting that problem with the deer and elk meat, works great..
If it's not freezerburned (probably is), it would be OK to eat. I wouldn't eat it as a main course, but I would dump it into a pot of split pea or 15 bean soup.
Spilt pea soup? Good idea. It wouldn't matter if the meat was ruined or not![]()
Why am I the only person I know that likes split pea soup?!?
Just that it may not taste very good. Throw it into a stew, soup, etc. and it should be ok but I would taste a bit before I did.
I'm not such a fan that I'll fly 2500 miles to eat it, but I'll spend 30 minutes making it at home. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to file that under "things I now know that I have no need for"!!
If you come to CA, you'll be in hog heaven at Pea Soup Andersen's Restaurant at Buellton, just north of Santa Barbara. Bon Appetit![]()
BEST peas soup that I EVER had. Stopped in after seeing the advertisement signs along the highway. I believe that the soup I ordered cane with FREE seconds. Could not beat the price nor the flavor.
