Just curious what everyone is using as far a boat wash and wax goes? I believe any wax is better than no wax but what have you found that works in your opinion?
I have used Meguires cleaner/polish on my hull and it does a great job imo, I also use it on the outboard and that black Merc sparkles!

I have been using Meguires vinyl and leather cleaner/conditioner on my seats and absolutely love it! It cleans them up great and makes them look better than new, it smells nice too(boat seats are still new condition, not dirty)
Just curious what others are using and any other mtce tips you can share? Thanks.........Irv964

Re: Cleaning/protecting your Lowe?

Hi Irv,

I too use Meguiar's products. I have waxed the hull and trailer and it seems to hold up.

One thing I will do after my boat sits on the water for a week is use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. It really cuts the scum line and water spots. It probably takes the wax off, but when the boat is really clean I can wax the hull in less than an hour.

This may sound crazy but I brought my engine cowl inside last winter and over the course of several nights put about 12 coats of wax on it. Let me tell you, with a simple wipe down it looks incredible after each use.

I need to find a good carpet cleaner. I have noticed that the carpet is not getting as clean as I would like.

Ref. carpet cleaner

My Lowe has carpet that is almost blond in color (only other option was red). Gets dirty and fast.

I haul out every 7 days or so to clean the bottom. If necessary I clean the carpet by spraying carpet with water hose directing water and dirt toward drain than vacuum with wetvac. Any stains left I treat with RESOLVE HIGH TRAFFIC FOAM in airso can. Tried others but this has cleaned it all so far. From fish blood, to dock scum to dirty shoe prints to big bird waste.

Can buy it at Walmart or Lowes be sure to use in a hidden area first to check for color fastness

Thats good to know, come spring I think I will be cleaning my carpets too. Now I just have to find a little piece of carpet from somewhere to hide the burn hole my Wife put in my carpet a little while ago! I am glad it isn't too big and is hardly noticable but I know it is there!! Any hints or tips on how to do that? Thanks
12 coats of wax on your motor eh DeepV? :) You sound like me! It certainly isn't going to hurt anything and I bet it looks awesome after a simple wipe down like you say. I am hoping to get to the trailer this Thursday so I can get a few coats on the motor and at least one or two on the hull, I would also like to clean and polish all the hardware, rails, cleats etc? What do you guy's use or that, liquid or paste? ..Irv964

Re: Cleaning/protecting your Lowe?

Well I managed to get the boat and motor waxed this week-end and it turned out great. I also waxed the underside of the boat and couldn't believe how it shined up!(boat lift works great for this!) I seen a couple areas that looked funny, I thought oh oh is this peeling paint? But it wasn't, big relieve! I guess it was just some sort of lake scum that had dried on the bottom, it came right off with a bit of elbow grease.
I can't say enough about this Meguires Cleaner/Polish that GM dealerships carry here in Oshawa, it is by far one of the best waxes I have ever used, just wipe it on with a bit of gentle pressure and wait 5 minutes(important!) and wipe it off, it shines like no tomorrow. The next day I took the boat for a rip and when I came back there was absolutely no water spots on it anywhere, not even on the motor after it had dried. Mind you it wasn't very hot out but at the same time it was sunny.........Irv964

Re: Cleaning/protecting your Lowe?

I did the same Friday cleaned and waxed the whole boat including the motor.

Put the boat back in Sunday and in the first hour had managed to knock a quarter size piece of paint off the top of the merc motor with a spinner bait. Kind of put a damper on the day.

But have to hand it to Lowe their paint does clean easy and really shines.

Re: Cleaning/protecting your Lowe?

Well I put the boat in storage yesterday so thats it for another season. I managed to get a coat of wax on the trailer and on my top rails etc of the boat. I used the same Meguire's cleaner/wax again on everything and I can't say enough about this product, it goes on easy and comes off even easier after you have waited at least 5 minutes. I re-did some spots on the bottom that I couldn't get too while it was on the lift so the entire boat is now complete and does it shine!
On a side note, I had a funny situation when loading the boat on Friday, I backed the trailer into it's normal position for loading and all went well, when I got out of the boat over the bow the boat slipped off the trailer like it was on rollers! That wax would not allow it to stick to the bunks at all, I had to grab a hold of the front and physically pull it on and attach the strap at the same time, it was a bit challenging but I was glad to see how well this wax worked! Getting the boat positioned was super easy, just a slight nudge on the back end and it slid right into place, unlike before it was waxed.
I vaccumed the carpets, cleaned up the seats, windshield, etc and off to the dealers it went. A few guy's that were there thought the boat was brand new which made me feel good! I look after my stuff anyways but it was nice to get some compliments............Irv964
