I have a 57 10hp Johnson.

It have not started it in at least 3 years. It also started on the first pull before letting it sit.

What would you do to get it ready to use again?

Clean carb - lubricate engine (incl gearbox) - check water pump - mix fresh gas/oil - start up and check cooling system is working.

What about the plugs? Should they be replaced?

The model number is QD-18.

nice motor. I think I would just pull the plugs and clean them up, if that was not done before layup. These motors run pretty rich. I think you have a glass bowl under the carb, so you can easily clean that up and inspect for any varnish. If it's empty and clean, your carb is probably the same. Are you running the two line tank? I have a 7 1/2 Evinrude ('57) that I'm currently messing with -- have the powerhead off so I could check the impeller (not getting the right waterflow through the water passages.) Since the powerhead is off, I was thinking I might put on a fuel pump I had for this motor -- have a pump already attached to a matching transfer port cover, so it should be easy to convert back to original.

Yes it is a two line tank.

BTW, what is a good method for cleaning the tank?
