seems this has been touched on before, but here's my deal. I have an 86 ranger 373v with metal flake. It is very chalky and I know the only way to fix perfectly is to spray new gel coat.

Curious of results using a spray can of acrylic enamel to quickly add a layer of clear. Anyone have results? May not be perfect, but I'm tired of the dull, chalky look. I figure, worse case, I'll have to repeat or strip it back and do something else.

I'll wet sand, then wipe with something like denatured alcohol before spraying.

Before getting too far with the sanding and such, try a very small inconspicuous area first and see if spraying even some rattle can clear will get you what you are looking for. If so, then go for it knowing that you will never ever get the shiny colored metal flake without a heck of a lot of prep work and good spraying capabilities. Lots of time people decide to sand, prime and recoat with solid colors for that reason. Pop up some pictures for us to see what you're dealing with.

I have done it with nason clear. It looks good and lasted a bunch of years before it started doing the peeling again. As stated try it on a small patch.

I plan to try a small area first and see how it goes. I'll have to look up Nason clear.

Here is what I'm working with. I tried a small area with the rattle can, which depending on how hard it sets up will depend how i proceed. I might just get the Nason clear or something like it. I suppose i can start working on wetsanding and stripping the hardware off and keep covered, then get a nice day and spray it.
