I’ve been sold on Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer for some time. Recommend it and use it for everything. I’ve been buying CPES from the Rot Dr. I just recently found this website about penetrating epoxy:

http://www.epoxyproducts.com/penetrating4u.html

It’s got me rethinking all of the money I’ve spent on the really pricy CPES.

Hmmmm? Me too 18r. choke, choke!

Not only money but maybe time as well. I've spent a ton of time doing multiple coats on things in CPES.

Good link. I save it for the next project. (in my next life :p )

I'm glad to have the info on Xylene as well. I'm helping a friend with a refloor in his 24 ft Searay.

Yeah, thanks a lot, Rabbit. I hit your link and checked that out...45 minutes later, I have to take a break. Overload. :) Good information. I'm going to have to go home and pull out the xylene and epoxy now.

Re: Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer

I know what you mean, Swimmin’. After a couple goes at all of that info I jumped straight to the section on CPES…70% solvent! Cheaper than epoxy!

What’s even worse, I just found out CPES is made by Smith & Co, here in the SF Bay Area, not 10-miles from where I live. I’ve been paying to have it shipped from here to Washington, then back down here to me. Not sure if I should feel enlightened or stupid.
http://www.smithandcompany.org

I talked to Smith & Co yesterday. CPES and MultiWood Primer are exactly identical, no diff at all, just different pkg labels to target different markets. Anyone interested in CPES may find it in your local area sold as Smith & Co MultiWood Primer.

Boom – I thought you would find that interesting. I’m looking for a diy web link for your disappearing rope.
:D

C-Kid - don’t try to ingest all of the info at once. You'll explode.
;)

I recently read an article on this sufff and would like to try it on a fancy cedar gate I'm making for the house. Anyone know if it's available in Vancouver (BC)? I've tried a few places but only got blank stares.

Thanks
Nikko

Rabbit, email me if you would. My email addy is in my link. I found the disappearing rope, and a company that makes it. I've already written them to attempt to purchase some. If they contact me in return, you can have whatever I don't use. I'll send it to you.

Nikko-If we can get epoxies in Washington, you should be able to get it there. There's a good seller on ebay-orionspyramid is the store name. He's somewhere in the west...Utah, perhaps. He'd probably send it to you. If not, you can feel free to contact me, as well. I can get it, and you can pick it up. Better yet, I MIGHT be talked into a trip to Vancouver if there were a promise of salmon fishing the Fraser or Chilliwack River. Best salmon fishing in the world up there, and I've been dying to take the trip anyway. :)

Do a search for it on here. That, or dissolving rope. Boomyal rebuilt a floor, and used it. He does a better job of explaining.

Hey. Boomyal can handle the razzing. Every weekend, he goes fishing and I'm still building a boat. LOL. If you want that rope, email me. I talked to the president of a company that makes it, and he's asked me to call today or on Monday, so I should be able to purchase some from him. I don't know that it's the same company Boom went through, but it should be a similar product with similar results. I can't wait to get it, either. Very exciting.

When you get it SFS, keep it inside and sealed. When you are ready to apply it, be ready to foam it it immediately.

I left mine exposed in the boat overnight (damp nite, no rain and boat under cover) and had to reapply it before I could foam over it. It had shriveled up.

Give me a shout before you apply it and I'll give you a few more tips.

Re: Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer

Hey Boom. I'll apply it in the next week or so. I'm pretty sure that we didn't get it from the same supplier, though. Mine's coming in block foam, 1" thick. I think yours was easier to work with, but I took what I found. I have 100 sq. feet on order, as of yesterday. Email me if you would. I'd love to hear the suggestions. Beyond that, I don't want to hijack rabbits thread, and I do want to thank you again, Rabbit! Those sites are excellent. Tomorrow or Thursday, I'll be mixing some xylene into my epoxy. I'll post something on how it comes out
