hey folks. i just painted my floor in my 16 foot center console with some heavy duty rustoleum bright white after hearing from users on here that it is a cheap yet good basic paint.

i dont think so. it chips and scratches and peels to easy when something is "moved around" on the floor.

i do like the color and how it spreads and goes on.

QUESTION: can i lay a nice layer of clear polyurethane over top of it , cause ive used helmsmans clear polyurethane sealer before and it is the $h!t !!!! very good stuff.

Methinks it was poor advice PMM. If I recall correctly you just fiberglassed the floor? That stuff may stick to the walls but will not stick to a floor. My advice, get some Jasco paint remover and then at least recoat with a two part epoxy floor paint. Don't waste your time and $'s on clear. Maybe get one of these other rubberized type coatings that are talked about here.

what about stripping all the paint and tinting a layer of new resin? i heared you still have to seal the resin cause itll still be sticky and no good with the UV stuff.... i have LOTS of leftover resin from the floor job, and would like to try it ifn somebody thinks itll work.. sounds good in theory...!?!?

Garage floor paint has worked well for me. Its made by International and has a non slip additive in it already.

Did you Properly Sand the floor First ?????
Have you allowed the Rustoleum to Dry/Cure Enough ?????
When applied Heavily, this stuff takes A Long Time to Cure/Dry.............

I Agree,
Clearcoating is Not the Answer.........

Re: clear polyurethane over painted floor

I use Petit topside epoxy paint mixed with rustoleum nonskid sand and it wears like iron and shines like waxed gelcoat. Epoxy paint may be expensive but it covers very well and works. Besides, IMHO, the *real* cost is the labor. Having to do a job twice is very expensive. Every time I try to skimp on materials it comes back to bite me in the butt. That is the biggest lesson I've learned from rebuilding the Formula.

I've found that the old adage about paint (the more expensive it is, the better it is) holds true be it for the boat or my house. Same thing with brushes.
