2018 Mercury 115 Pro XS CT 4 Stroke
2018 pontoon boat with Moeller fuel tank in engine pod.
Fuel tank has a raised fill neck with a vent hose attached about 2" down from the fill cap.
No primer bulb or FDV, fuel supply hose goes direct to the motor.
A few weeks ago it developed a problem where on the first start of the day, it would start and die right away. On the 2nd try, it would start and run fine. All other start ups throughout the day are fine. The problem only appears after the boat has sat for a day or longer.
A few days ago I decided to open the tank fill cap and heard a bunch of air escape right before trying to start the motor, and it started up and ran fine. Tried to replicate this a few times since then, and have somewhat confirmed that if I vent the tank prior to starting, all good. If I don't, it'll start and die the first time.
The vent hose runs under the deck and the boat has full under skinning, so I can't see where the hose runs to and check for a clogged vent. No vents visible anywhere on/in the boat.
Anyone else run into something like this? What's the reality that a clogged vent is actually my problem?
