Clogged with trash. Melted some parts

Just found this sight from a friends recomendation.<br /><br />I have a 97 merc. 25 horse two stroke that got some trash in it and I melted the two celinoids (things that the spark plug wires come from).<br /><br />There doesn't seem to be any other damage but what are some of the things that I should look for?<br /><br />Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement part at the best price?

If you got that pup hot enough to melt tha coils, that what it sounds like you're saying anyway, you've probably got some other worries. If the engine still turns over, do a compression check and lettus know what ya find.<br /><br />Where 'bouts in NE Texas?<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Did a finger compression check (don't have a guage) and it seemed ok.<br /><br />None of the other wires or parts show any signs of damage.<br /><br />How much of a pain would it be to check the empeller (sp?).<br /><br />Live in Princeton. Work in Coppell.

The water pump is easy enough to replace but ya really need a manual Check ebay for one. Ya gotta drop the gear case.<br /><br />Where do ya work here in Coppell? <br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

What were the psi readings from your finger check? You need to go buy a screw in compression gauge at your local auto parts store and see if you've cooked this engine (Readings should be over 100 psi and within 10% if each other). If you haven't cooked the cylinders or pistons you will probably need to replace the melted ignition coils, and at the very least pull the lower unit and replace the impeller. You need to find out why it overheated or you'll cook it again the next time you fire it up.
