1984 Sea Ray -I/O - and it has a missing (door) on the bow of the boat where you walkthru to the forward section of the boat. It is in front of the windshield and is totally gone.

There is an aluminum frame that it sits on (three sided).

How do I replace it? Have one custom fabricated? Make one out of wood? Boat bone yard? :)

John

John, It is hard to understand what is missing without a description of the kind of boat (Bowrider, closed bow, center console...). I will guess you mean a bowrider. if so, most bowriders have a walk-thru windshield, but no door to the bow. The windshield has a hinged, center section that will swing open and lay against the passenger side windshield.

Sorry john, I did not read the title closely. It sounds like you mean the door to the cuddy cabin. if so, why not use a piece of 1/4 opaque plastic and a pair of hinges. Alternatively, you could make a wood door out of 1x6 pressure treated planks, with spacing between them for ventilation. Use waterproof glue and ss screws in fabrication.

Don't feel bad it confuses me too. It is not a cuddy cab becaue the whole front of the boat ahead of the windshield is for storage only. The front of the bow is closed except for a small area in front of the windshield. Yes, the windshield does open and if the missing door is open (hehe - missing door) you can walk a few feet forward of the windshield.

It is similar to the trap door on the very front of the bow - that you open to get the anchor out. I am told this model was popular back east but not here in Arizona because the boat is better suited for harsh weather (and of course we get none of that in Arizona ((currently 91 degree's outside))).

This any better of a mental picture?

One more try -- if you open the windshield window in the center of the boat -- you could not walk forward through it because the trapdoor would stop you. The trapdoor is on the top of the boat as you can sit on it or walk on it when you have one :)

If this doesn't work I will go take a picture of it :)

Appreciate your patience.

John

i would make it out of Starboard. If you don't know what that is, I don't either, but I think its recycled milk jugs, that have been melted down and formed into sheets like plywood. Can get it in all different colors. Might work very well.

Or you could just laminate a piece of plywood and then have the gel coat color matched and then gel coat it.

Good Luck.....Peace
