Is that $540 each side? So $1080 in addition to the $2,600 kit?! :faint2::faint2::faint2::faint2::faint2::faint2:

No, What I was trying to get at was that I could replace the manifolds almost three times for the price of the conversion kit.

Just got a call from the dealer. $2,600 for the kit. The risers/manifolds(one peace) are $540 each.

I don't understand the one piece statement, have a look at the parts diagram for your engine.

If you are going to be in salt. . . go for the kit, particularly if it is a "FULL" system kit. (and if a FULL system kit is more $$$, it may be worht the extra). The engine will last 20 years or so with salt water going through it, but if/when you go to sell in 5 years or so, a prospective buyer won't really care, and will discredit the boat.

If you have run the boat on a closed cooling system, then the salt water issue/concern would be avoided.

That kit price is for the cooling kit only. Nothing about the ECM or the hose kit.
Here is the kit itself.

Something else to through into the mix here. I don't know if your new 5.0 is the same as the new 5.7's but 5.7's have a new coating on the inside of the manifolds and elbows that make them much more resistant to salt water. Whereas before if you needed to change the elbows every 5 years or so I was told by Merc that apples to apples it would now be only every 8 years. How long are you planning on keeping the boat for?

I may be over thinking this one. The boat will be used on a local lake and taken down to the salt water parhaps 4-6 times a year for a long weekend.

No need for Closed Cooling system, I think the fresh water will take care of the salt.

Look into Salt-Away , one heck of a lot cheaper than a closed cooling system for a few trips a year.

For that little exposure get the above and or just flush with fresh water after the salt and you'll be fine. If you were in and out of the salt all the time it might be different. Sometimes an option like CWC just becomes price prohibitive for the application.
