I have bought a new boat. I am using my older motor. I do not know how to connect the a tach up or what or where to look for the wire. I know that it is gray but there is alot of wires on this motor, lol. Also did the engine come with a spot to hook up the speedo. The mottor has setup for about a year is there any precautions i should take? I am open to any advice. I am running a 225 Ocean Pro Evinrude, the year i am uncertain but approx about 1994-1996. And how can i determine prop size that i should use cause i know the 15x15 i have now is wrong for a bay boat.

Thanks,

Re: Clueless

model number of the motor,, to begin with. you need post your prop question in the prop forum, with the boat info, rpms the motor is currently turning at wide open throttle. should be a 3 prong, receptacle on your controler for the tack harness. read this http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086

Re: Clueless

I am not sure of the model number the tag on the engine is gone. I have searched for the plug with the numbers and i get G3301206. I found a 2 prong but yet to have found a 3 prong. will it be pluged into anything else or just a blank receptacle? the motor does run but i just feel that is not running as hard as it should.

Re: Clueless

Speedometer doesn't use engine for measurement. There should be a pickup on the lower area of the transom. It'll either be water pressure type (pitot) or electronic wheel type for electric speedo.

Both are fairly accurate, but not 100%. Usually in the 5% range of true speed.

Yeah i do not want the speedo for accuracy but would like to get it to work just for the reason it is a new boat. I would like to see everything work, at least once, lol. thanksfor the advice.

Re: Clueless

your motor is newer, you need to go to the dealer and get him to order you a service manual. that the number you have with you. hopefully they can tell you what you have.

Re: Clueless

I found the tach wires and got it working correctly. The reson it is not running right is that 3 of the 6 carbs were gummed up to the point of no return. Thanks for the help still no luck on the year of the motor though.
