Was doing a bit of waterskiing in the rain over the weekend. "Hit it" once and heard a pretty good clunk. Not happy. Ran great the rest of that run and the day. Any thoughts?

Mine is doing that after I've been in reverse. We think it's because somehow the drive gets pulled up. Go to forward and thunk...the drive sits back down on the rams. It's a possiblity.

Sounds like sticking shift cable. Can be really bad for it to 'shift' when under load. Puts massive strain on the whole drive and especially the gears.
You'll know when the gears let loose.

airdvr,
Sounds like your reverse lock-out has to be adjusted.
