Went up to Mass on Thursday to pick up a new bed for 2k Dakota, they have 400 clunkers to piece out the parts. big mail order recycler. had 8 in every color of Dakota, and not a dent on them. got a few extra parts as well, cheap.

Re: Clunkers paid off for Me,

Glad it worked out for you! Our local salvage yard has LOTS of SUVS and Pickups, too.

It wouldn't happen to have been a Co-Part location, would it?

Re: Clunkers paid off for Me,

Just curious, but was this legal?

I had heard that the CFC trade-ins were supposed to go straight to the shredder.

Did the government actually do the right thing and let these vehicles get parted out?

Yes it's ok. The engines were disabled so the vehicle could never drive again, and it cannot be titled. The salvage yard has a specific period of time to part it out before they too must crunch the remains.

I almost wish I needed parts, hope I don't hit another deer though.

Re: Clunkers paid off for Me,

my truck bed was rusted out at the wheel wells, I hit a deer and trashed the spoliler and grille , last month a front calaper frozed and welded the wheel to the disk, had to cut the aluminum wheel off, so i bought all of those in mint condition for 900. and the front flares to match the rear one off the truck all the same color as mine.

For having such bad luck with break downs, you got pretty lucky with finding the replacement parts!

Too bad the parts recycler's are limited to 60 days before they have to crush everything. Lot's of good parts out there are going to waste.:(

Re: Clunkers paid off for Me,

Waja,

If you tow with your Dak, see if they have any 03-04 Dakotas with the complete front knuckle/brake assembly (knuckle, rotor, caliper, hose, backing plates,,, everything). The 03-04's came with big rotor / dual piston caliper brakes, 1000X better than the 2000 Dak crappy single caliper brakes. I had an 00 and 03 Dak and the 03 brakes were far better.

I have an 01 Durango now and been meaning to call around to see if I can find the big brake setup off an 02-03 Durango, or 03-04 Dak.

(FYI, The Durango's have a bit bigger brakes than the Dak's, just a bit)

Yep, that's about right. But they will pull and stop A LOT more weight than a Durango!
