Would a Mercury dealer possibly have this item?

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

roscoe, I just checked them out. Their shipping charges are extortion. He might be better off going to a local Merc dealer.

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

You can order it directly from mercurypartsexpress.co m
Just enter in the part number, they will ups it to your house and the local dealer gets the sale. Should have it in 3 business days.

Ofcourse, the local dealer gets parts in every other day, so he should have it pretty quickly too.

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

Called Merc service center, gave them the part number, and they could not find it. Dawson Marine, Jasper Texas. Said that they are not a Merc dealer, but they sell Merc engines. Will end up ordering off the net.
I called another shop and described the problem i am having......90% Throttle then zing!!! out of gear it goes...drops back into gear going back on the stick. Operates well anywere else up to 90%.
He said that my prop is spun and to take it to the prop shop, they will tell me whats up. He said if your dog was out,it would make alot of racket other than the zinging sound when it comes out of gear. Hope he is right...dont want to drop the lower unit....
jas...."petey"

Petey:
You can check the prop yourself by scribing a mark from the hub to line up with one on the prop. Then take it out, run it until it jumps out and check to see if the marks are still aligned.

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

Doc,
That was my plan for friday, We have a prop shop just down the road from me and its closer than the lake. I will run it by there Friday morning and let them look at it. They should hopefully be able to tell me something by looking at the hub and prop. Any tell tale signs I should look for to avoid a sham?
Not knowing what to look for would surely leave me prey to a needless ghost repair.
Thanks...any ammo will help.
petey... :p

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

Buy a new prop and try it. Keep the old one as a spare and have it repaired IF the new prop solves the problem.

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

FYI - I typed the original part number into the mercurypartsexpress.com website, and it came back with the new part number. Any dealer should have the same info.

Petey:
Scribe the marks before taking to the prop shop. If ht tested it and it "spun" your marks should be out of alignment. I think new prop is about $112.00.

Re: CLUTCH DOG ....HELP

How was the test?

I believe I have the same problem with a Force 120. It seems to spin something under heavy load particularly around planning speed. It seems to reduce if the throttle is near full and the boat is planing. I have bought new props but it did the same thing however it did seem better. I was running a full tank of fuel, 140 gals, 23' trophy walk around, 4 people, 8 scuba tanks and ice chests. It's got twin 120's. The weight seems to be a correlation but I've been on a 22' boat with a single 225 outboard with 16 tanks and 4 guys, no problems.

Gear lube is perfect, no water, no debris with magnets in the oil pan. Any thoughts on this problem?

Thanks
TrophyFish'n.
